My 1st psychiatrist was really big into
psychotherapy (I didn't know at the time that
most psychiatrists primarily focus on meds).
Anyways, he thought that therapy was the best
solution for me and said that meds were just a
crutch. I told him that therapy is a good
idea and I wanted to do it, but it is a
long process and I may need meds so that my life
doesn't crumble around me in the mean time.
He would prescribe meds, but he *refused* to
talk to me about my responses to the meds.
Anyways, I learned a lot about psychopharmacology
and indirectly quized him on some simple
issues, and he didn't know some really easy
questions. Then I new why he was so focused
on therapy. So it can go both ways. I think
my experience was unique.
