servus!
so i´m not the only one from austria participating on this forum.
i´ve been on SEROXAT (paroxetine) for a while, it was sheer horror to stop taking it (severe nausea, vertigo etc.). now i am giving sertraline (GLADEM) a try. what i have read, the mechanism of action is the same for paroxetine and sertraline: an inhibition if serotonine-reuptake. but: sertraline and its active metabolites have a reltively long half live (48 to over 100 h!), while parexetine in contrast is eliminated very quickly. this makes it much easier to stop taking GLADEM then to stop SEROXAT.
to counteract the nervousness (a common side-effect for all SSRIs) i drink tea or any other beverage containing caffeine. it may sound like a paradox - but SSRIs tend to antagonise dopaminergic mechanisms in the brain resulting in side effects like restlessness and nervousness (like children with attention-deficit and hyperactivity disorder) and an inhibition of libido and sexual arousal. as caffeine has some dopaminergic effects (like the drugs used to treat attention-deficit and hyperactivity disorder) it attenuates these side effects.
just give it a try!
