In reply to Serotonin antagonists, Where to get RITANSERIN??, posted by PhoenixGirl on January 31, 2001, at 15:13:27
Ritanserin isn't available anywhere as far as I know (I've looked), but ketanserin, very much the same, is available from an overseas pharmacy in India. If you're really interested, I'll find the web site. I think, tho, that the manufacturer has stopped making it, so you might not be able to use it long-term. I do know that both ritanserin and ketanserin were in clinical trials and they proved ineffective for schizophrenia, but I think they're in trials for depression now.
If you take a low enough dose of risperidone or zyprexa, you should be able to antagonize the 5HT2 receptors without antagonizing dopamine receptors or affecting other serotonin receptors, and maybe even increase dopamine. So, I'd try those first. Personally, I've benefited from low-dose risperidone for depression.
Cyproheptadine has yucky side effects and I believe it can cause weight gain.
