I currently take Serzone (Nefazodone) at a dosage of 400mg per day (100mgs x4), and unfortunately, I don't know what advice I can really give you. I know that when I miss a dose I get very queasy, head-achy, nauseous and all-around grumpy. Since Serzone benefits the quality of my sleep, the lack of the medication could probably cause sleep-related difficulties.
I don't know what dosage you are tapering from, and why your doc hasn't given you the go-ahead, so it's hard to advise in these situations. Is the weight gain the major complaint? Are you taking Serzone for depression or other reasons?
I currently take 100mgs of Amitriptyline (Elavil) at bedtime (along with 100mgs of Serzone) but the Amitriptyline was the first anti-depressant I started on and it was being prescribed *exclusively* for migraines by my Internal Medicine Doc. However, Amitriptyline is a sedating TCA known to cause weight gain, but it has not contributed to any weight gain in my case.
Head-ache wise, I've only found relief with Amitriptyline and Verapamil (a calcium-channel blocker often prescribed for different heart disease ailments). I think there are others on this site who have used ACE inhibitors with some success.
I'm sorry I can't offer more, but with more details maybe someone will pick this thread up and give you something useful. My best wishes are with you.
