There was an article this week in the Boston Globe about Pfizer and drugs in the pipeline. They said two were going to Phase III trials later this year and no sexual dysfunction was one quality remarked upon in the chart.
From a press release on their web site about drugs in the pipeline:
http://www.pfizer.com/pfizerinc/investing/analystrelease1211.html...and Pagoclone, a novel Gaba A receptor modulator for the treatment of panic disorders.
He also reported that Pfizer is investigating four mechanistically distinct antidepressants in early stages of development, and is beginning Phase III trials in 2001 for CP-122,721, an NK-1 antagonist. This compound demonstrated robust antidepressive effects in a Phase II trial in depressed patients.
Phase II trials are ongoing for CP-526,555, an oral treatment for smoking cessation. Smoking causes 400,000 deaths a year and generates annual healthcare system costs of $50 billion each year. As a partial agonist, CP-526,555 partially stimulates the nicotine receptor in the brain to satisfy a smoker's nicotine craving while, at the same time, blocking the nicotine receptor from the reinforcing value of nicotine in smoke.
