Sometimes, but not usually. Lithium usually potentiates other drugs. But I have heard a couple scattered reports where Lithium alone was a total cure for anxiety in one case and depression in another case. In both cases it worked the first day.Weight gain is not uncommon. Most of it is water weight though, since Lithium makes you thristy and you have to drink more to flush out the salts. Lithium is just a salt.
