Paxil no longer effective?

Posted by Carol-Lynn on December 3, 2000, at 16:27:19

I am a 53 year old woman who has been taking 20mg of Paxil for 8 years now,
following a careful diagnosis of probably life-long clinical depression. Paxil has
worked magnificently for me, allowing me an enthusiasm for life that I did not
feel for the first 45 years of my life.

The past 3 months depression has returned which does not seem to be
situational and which feels very much like I felt for the majority of my life prior
to Paxil. An increase to 30mg per day seems to make no change.

Is it possible that I have become tolerant to the drug and that it is no longer
effective? Is this common? If this is the case, what type of drug should I
consider switching to - with the supervision of my Internist, of course.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Please feel free to e-mail me.
