First, obviously he needs a new doctor, but if your friend is hooked on valium and he's still getting it from this guy, he won't want a new doctor. Is this doc a psychiatrist or a GP? And what is his address? (Just kidding.)Try to talk your friend into getting another opinion on the serzone, at least. As you know, everyone's chemistry is different and people react in a variety of ways to medication. Your friend's growing depression and irritability are probably due to a lack of sleep. I used to have severe problems with insomnia, and it can turn you into a perfect ass. Now I take 100 mg. seroquel at bedtime and it knocks me right out.
It's not a sleeping pill, and I haven't had to increase the dosage for it to stay effective. One more comment- I worked in a medical office for years, and I'm guessing that your friend's doctor does not return his calls because he suspects your friend just wants more valium. This isn't good patient care, but doctors are people too and some of them have a tough time just saying 'no'.
Good luck-
Gracie
