RD,
I have taken 3 mg. per day of Xanax for many years, and have had breakthrough anxiety for most of that time. I started taking Neurontin with Xanax a few months ago. I noticed right away that Neurontin had a very calming effect on me, and I would sometimes forget to take a dose of Xanax. They work well together in decreasing anxiety in my body; my understanding is that Neurontin bi-passes the liver completely, so that should not be a problem. Strangely enough, over the last few months, I've gone from 3 mg. of Xanax to only 1 mg. Some days Neurontin works even better than Xanax, and other days it doesn't work as well. FYI, I take approximately 600 mg. per day of Neurontin.
Just my 2 cents worth.

> hi everybody.. I have a question for anyone here that knows a little about xanax. I am taking 3 mg. of xanax right now and also ,just started zyprexa and effexor xr last week.for the first 3 days on the zyprexa and effexor I actually started to feel better, now it seem to be causing some anxiety, but I know that this can happen and may fade with in a week or so. but the problem is with my xanax I started out taking 1.5 milligrams a day, I read somewhere that for one reason or another some people produce more enzymes in there liver or somewhere?? that break down the xanax and wont let it get into the bloodstream(where it needs to be!). it seems to me that my body is metabolizing this stuff to much. does anyone know of a vitamin or something that can augment or increase the bioavailability of xanax. or is there another drug out there that is similar to xanax other than; ativan, buspar or other benzo's, xanax has been the only one that has helped woth my anxiety, but I know first hand of the withdrawls of xanax and its not fun,but is it safe to take 4 or 5 mgs. of this stuff a day? any responses will be greatly appreciated, thanks , rog
