Stimulants (adderall) make my heart skip!!!!!

Posted by JaredD on November 8, 2000, at 23:34:53

Hello, this is my first writing anything on this site. I'm 22 years old and a senior in college. I have ADD primarily inattentive type along with some minor anxiety and depression and was just diagnosed a couple months ago. Definitely mild depression. I have come a long way on my own and am currently working with my psychologist (I don't know the lingo for doctors, pdoc or whatever).

My problem is that I've been getting heart irregularities off of the two stimulants I've tried so far, adderall at about 10mg 2xdaily, and later ritalin at 10 mg 2xdaily. I have no history of heart related problems and I've always been pretty healthy (not necessarily in shape though). The thing is, I saw a doctor and he suspects that they are probably one of two types of heart contractions PAC's or PVC's. Supposedly he says it's not to much of a problem and I shouldn't go off the medication unless it was making me uncomfortable. Well, it does make me uncomfortable and nervous. The problem is that I'm a computer engineering major at school and this medication really helps me out.

My pdoc say's that I could try wellbutrin and that it works well sometimes for people with ADD. I don't know though. I never thought of myself as someone who would be on anti-depresents my whole life and I've been reading some scary stuff on here.

Has anyone had any heart problems off of the stimulants? I'm in the middle of a very tough semester, I think it would probably be very difficult to juggle drug experimentation with anti-depressants while in school.
oh, one more thing kind of on the side concerning my ADD. Does anyone know anyone else that has a severe impairment when it comes to finding their way around or one might say, no sense of direction. It took me an entire year during high school to learn how to get to the YMCA, a 10 minute walk for a normal kid, half hour for me.
Anyway, thanks for listening and I hope someone responds. C ya,
Jared
