Does a manic response to SSRI's suggest bipolarity

Posted by cole on October 29, 2000, at 22:44:31

I'm just a little curious about this. i was prescribed zoloft for my depresssion all throughout high school, and when i finally decided once and for all that i didn't like the way it made me feel, i stopped taking it. i discovered that i was actually a far more relaxed, calm, and nonconfrontational person off zoloft. with zoloft i frequently got into physical altercations, and was verbally aggressive. i tried celexa last year when looking for a new AD and had a similar response-- within 3 days i couldn't sleep and i was arguing and bickering like crazy. does this mean i have bipolar tendencies? or was this just the drug? i am less depressed on SSRI's but i still have periods of suicidal ideation and self mutilation on them, while remeron seems to have completely "cured" my depression. remeron is actually the only one that has really worked, and i've tried almost all the new ones. any ideas??
thanks,
cole
