Anna,
As Andrew so accurately stated, Adrafinil can provide the arousel and get-up-and-go. Yet it is not at all like other psychostimulants. It's been loosely defined as being the first of a new class of meds called good-arousal meds. The way that it is different from other stimulants is that it does not provide instant results; it does not increase neurotransmitter levels; it does not stimulate the release of more neurotransmitters; it is not accompanied by the speedy feelings such as racing heart or decreased appetite; it is slow acting, taking days to weeks to take effect.

If you look at molecular diagrams of Provigil and Adrafinil, they look identical at first glance. Very little difference. But the tiny difference between them makes a huge difference in how they work, and how well someone's chemistry either accepts them or rejects them. I think it's like that with all meds, and that may be a factor in why one med will work and be tolerable while a very similar one won't.

For anyone needing arousal, motivation, and renewed interest in life, Adrafinil in my experience is excellent. But it does take time. I notice it a tiny bit on day 1, a bit more by day 3, somewhat more by week 2, but it really kicks in about week 3 or so. Depression lifts, renewed vitality returns. Probably one of the USA's least known and yet most effective antidpressants/stimulants available in the world. Just my opinion. It differs from all other antidepressants in that it can even be helpful to someone who isn't depressed, like for example a college student or anyone requiring an extra boost of energy and mental cognition on the job or whatever.

Modafinil takes longer for delivery and you will find it is prohibitively expensive. Very very expensive. And in my experience, not nearly as good. I hated Provigil actually. Made me tired, easily exhausted, unmotivated. Just the opposite of what I needed. If you're interested in sampling, you might start with Adrafinil since it is so inexpensive. You could always compare Provigil later, but I like Adrafinil tons better.
John
