Shirley,
What about Prozac, have you tried that one? It's in the same family as Zoloft and will work similar, but different in some ways too. It is usually more activating, and it's more common for people to lose weight (or stay steady) rather than gain weight. Even in the warnings it says to use caution when prescribing it to underweight depressed patients. Prozac doesn't seem to cause as much emotional blunting as other SSRIs.
Wellbutrin is another option, but it is so drastically different than Zoloft. Totally different game. You could try it, but it really is a lot different.
All of the SSRIs are actually quite different, molecularly, even though they are in the same family. And each has subtle differences in how they affect other neurotransmitters besides serotonin. You might find a substitute for Zoloft that works as well or even better, but probably only through experimentation. And in the end, maybe Zoloft would turn out to be the best after all. No way to tell.
A higher dose Adderall might do it, coupled with a lower dose Zoloft. Maybe? Adderall is an anorexic med after all, generally. But if you wanted to try something similar and put the odds in your favor, Prozac is your best bet. Just so you know though, even though it is known for weight loss, there are people who instead gain weight. Go figure. Oh well. Just have to experiment and tweek things a bit.
Here's an off-the-wall idea...maybe add a small dose of Meridia to your Zoloft+Adderall. Meridia is specifically for weight loss. It just so happens to be similar to Effexor, yet with prominent appetite suppressing qualities. I mean, someone could add a small amount of Effexor to their Zoloft if they wanted to. Why not use Meridia instead of Effexor. I've seen reports where people who took Meridia to lose weight were pleasantly surprised to find that their longstanding depression went away.
Just a few things to think about. If your doc suggests Paxil or Celexa, forget it. You won't like lose weight with those. Probably gain more. But Prozac, that's a good bet. Even better, maybe add some Meridia to the meds you already like.
