I came off effexor xr cold turkey, and although the symptoms were pretty bad, they only lasted about a week. I must admit I needed Xanax to sleep, but if you take this for 1 week it's not going to hurt. I felt very strange and had that electric shock felling in my head all the time - kind of like a human salt shaker. If you have the patience, i'd say cutting down is best - are you going to start a new med - there is usuallu a time period in which you can take up a new one whilst coming off th eoled. I put on heaps of weight with effexor (8kgs) and that was depressing me as much as anything - the last thing I needed was to obsess about my weight as well as all my other fears. Good luck, it's worth it in the end .
