Anytime I see mention of a good book, I can't help but put in a plug for "The Successful Treatment of Brain Chemical Imbalance", by Dr Martin Jensen. It's an outstanding psychopharm manual. Though his tactics of seeking fast responses to meds creates a lot of controversy, all the rest of the book is just jam packed with psychopharm tricks and tips. There is a section for the general reader, and a section for the more advanced. The thing I like best about the book is the strategy of using clues from medication responses to help pinpoint what chemistry is responsible for the patient's symptoms. No matter what the patient's response to a medication is--good, bad, neutral--there are always powerful clues provided to help diagnosis what the heck is going on. A lot like a detective making sense out of clues. Anyway, it is an outstanding psychopharm book, with much more realworld usable information in it that a patient can put into practice immediately. Most other psychopharm books I've seen are quite detailed and informative, but actually provide little useful hands-on information in terms of strategy, medication choice, chemistry fault identification, chemistries underlying different symptom clusters, and percentage statistics of which meds have worked in targeting the various chemical imbalances.
Very good book. Soft cover manual actually. Anyone who has tried two or more medications with little or no success should own this book.
