Having the right Dx really helps. Because treatments
overlap even with the wrong Dx things can get better.
I don't know much about cyclothymia but it is clear
the cyclying componant needs specific treatment, i.e
a mood stablizer. AD's can treat the depressive part while
making the cyclying worse, this is very true in Bipolor.

I would suspect you are on the right track. Someone else
on this list can fill you in on Neurotin, all I can say
is that some find it very effective.
