Serzone and Insomnia

Posted by Steve Mchale on September 3, 2000, at 11:57:08

Help! I was prescribed serzone for depression and mild insomnia. I would take it after dinner.

I started out quite slowly on Serzone. Initially at 25mg a day with 25mg increments per week. I topped out at 100 mg and stayed there through week six.

So here it the rub:
Weeks one through four: nothing. No affect.
Weeks five and six: Blissful sleep but no affect on the depression. I'm not worrying much if I can sleep like a normal person.
Week seven, I had full scale insomnia! Doc increased me to 150mg. Insomnia continued. Doc increased me to 200mg. Still no change! Hardly any sleep.

Week eight: I'm two days into my European vacation and the insomnia continued. Granted factors are different:I eat very little when I am on vacation and the 8 hour time change. I could not take this anymore so I just stopped taking the med.

I have an appt to see the doc in a few days. Maybe he will prescribe another course of action. I sleep very lightly, but it's tons better than the Serzone experience. Depression has not changed. It's usually triggered by events, rather than a constant state.

Maybe I was wreckless for going off the AD unsupervised, but I could no longer face the night!

Any thoughts?
