Medline is a database compiled by the National Library of Medicine which indexes articles from medical journals. Since these journals are written for M.D.s, language is often quite technical. There are many ways to search Medline-- software firms have written various user interfaces (ex--SilverPlatter, Ovid), but most who search it via the Internet use 1 of the 2 interfaces provided by NLM--igm (Internet Grateful Med) or PubMed. They use the same search protocol but offer different options. Igm is easier for the new searcher and there are links from its homepage to PubMed, six other databases, and MedlinePlus for consumers.
