In reply to Prozac and weight gain? and other stuff, posted by SueG on July 5, 2000, at 21:41:14
I have been on Prozac, 20 mg. for four months and have gained around 15 pounds. There are a lot of comments about weight gain and prozac on this site. Also, I would suggest checking out of the library "7 Weeks to Emotional Healing" by Joan Mathews Larson, PH.d., who offers alternatives.
She also has a web site at www.healthrecovery.com
where she talks a lot in relationship to her first book, Seven Weeks to Sobriety, but there is a lot of good information that you might find helpful.Peace,

> I always thought that Prozac was actually more likely to cause weight loss rather than weight gain? However, I have been reading more and more about SSRI's and weight gain. This concerns me as one of my problems is a binge-eating/food restriction cycle.
> I have just started (week 3) 20mg Prozac and so far it seems to be doing a pretty good job. It has taken the edge off my appetite and the urge to binge has pretty much diminished. It has also had the effect of making me think much clearer (after 2 weeks of fogginess to begin with), making me more motivated and interested in things and other people, i have more confidence, and my moods seem to have stabilised (maybe my feelings are a little "flat" but this is great for me who was always up and down and very sensitive and over-reactive).
