Lin - If I remember correctly (I seem to be getting old), a couple of years ago I was at a conference where a speaker was said that temporal lobe epilepsy and bipolar disorder both involved malfunctions of the temporal lobes (the sides of the brain). The focal points were different. I believe that he said that the bipolar disorder malfunction was deeper into the brain than the epilepsy malfunction (or was it the other way around?). This is why researchers believe that anticonvulsant medications act as mood stabilizers. This makes sense, but I don't know how well the link has been proven.

Hope this helps - Cam
