> i might be able to help a little regarding mianserin, an ex girlfriend of mine worked as a drug rep for bencard who originally made it.it is also known as bolvidon and has been used to help with sexual dysfunction caused by ssris, it is very popular with one of the french shrinks i used to talk to, they call it athymil and he said it was slightly sedating but very effective and had few side effects apart from the sedation, i may be wrong about this but i think its a serotonin antagonist like tianeptine but works in a different way, no reputation for weight gain and i think for some reason it seems to be underused, but not in france, good luck if you manage to get some i hope it helps

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I believe Mianserin is actually the ancestor of Remeron. Remeron was modelled after it and they are very similar, with Mianserin being the more hypnotic and sedating of the two. They both receive their sex friendly reputations by blocking the guilty receptors when serotonin is elevated by SSRIs. That being said, I have heard a few scattered reports of folks experiencing a decline in sexual interest with both of these. I have been on and off Remeron several times. It doesn't seem to affect my sex life at all one way or the other. That is until I go off it. Then I notice an increase in sexual desire. Remeron does seem to dampen my sexual desire. But it does so in such a gentle subtle way that I don't notice it until the drug is withdrawn.

As for sexual dysfunction of the impotent type or anorgasmic type, I have found Remeron to be of no help. But in Dr Bob's Tips, there are some doctors who prescribe Remeron in combination with SSRIs to remedy sexual dysfunction and they claim good results. Obviously my mileage varies.

For someone unable to get a hold of Mianserin, Remeron is almost the same thing. As I understand it. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
