Sara - I don't know about the Adderall, but Zoloft inhibits the cytochrome P450 system (liver detoxifying system - CYP-3A3/4) to a •very mild extent•. In theory, it could raise the concentration of the Zyrtec in the body, but whether this would be to any clinically significant extent, I doubt it (at least, not in most people).Your son may be sensitive to the Zyrtec. Some of this drug's side effects are: nervousness, emotional lability, abnormal thinking, anxiety, impaired concentration, and agitation. All of these occur in less than 1% of people taking Zyrtec. Children are sometimes more sensitive to the side effects of medication.
Report these side effects to your son's doctor. It may require a lowering of the Zyrtec dose. (I am assuming that the doctor told you to give your son Zyrtec, as it is not recommended for those under the age of 12 in Canada without a doctor's advise.)
Maybe a combination of CYP-3A3/4 inhibition and decreased sensitivity to the side effects of Zyrtec is causing your son's reactions. I am not positive though. Talk it over with your doctor. The resolution may be as simple as lowering the Zyrtec dose a bit.
Hope this helps - Cam
