Maybe the negative effect is specifically due to the combination of caffeine and parnate. I don't know if this has been published anywhere but it figures they would have some interaction, and through personal experience I eventually figured out that it was a BAD combination.

I'm not a regular consumer of significant amounts of caffeine but I found it caused moderately unsettling effects while I was on Parnate (60mg/day) and (once I figured out this was happening) switched to decaffinated soda and kept the no-doze to a minimum.
