> As you have probably read in my above post, i
saw a psychopharmacolgist today. He is lowering
my dose of celexa and augmenting it with a tiny
amount of serzone. Anyone know if you can take
these two together and what side effects of the
combo I can expect. I searched the web but
couldn't find any comparitive trials. Thanks in

Tina -

I haven't read the post you refer to, but I
recently had 100 mg. Serzone (50 mg. twice daily)
added to my Celexa (20mg, morning).

My problem is social anxiety, not depression. I
have taken Klonopin for about 9 months, and it's
made a major improvement in my quality of life.
But I have been "going for the gold" by
non-urgently trying other meds to augment or let
me taper back some on the Klonopin. About three
months ago I added 20 mg. Celexa. It's helped
some, but slowed me down a bit, especially when I
temporarily tried going to 30 mg. (At that dose
sexual problems became an issue, too).

Since adding the Serzone, I have been pleasantly
surprised by the results! In fact, I'm still
reserving judgment because one week strikes me as
too soon to confirm a real effect. But another
suprise was that after the first few days I felt
LESS fatigue and lack of motivation than before
adding the low-dose Serzone. Actually, I was
expecting just the opposite given Serzone's
reputation for sedation. And I have had no side
effects except some dry mouth and occasional,
barely perceptible, fleeting nausea.

So, yes, it is O.K. to take Celexa and Serzone
together. Do note that for me some of the results may reflect synergy with the Klonopin. Serzone has been shown to double the amount of the benzo
Xanax in the blood, and while not specifically
tested with Klonopin, Serzone might very well increase concentrations of that benzo as well.

Good Luck,
Rick
