Musical Obsessions

Posted by Blue Cheer on May 17, 2000, at 23:14:28

An interesting article (full-text) about musical obsessions appears in the Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences 11:398-400, August 1999 issue. For a free online trial period, go to:

[Are Musical Obsessions a Temporal Lobe Phenomenon?]
Zungu-Dirwayi et al.

An issue of the OCD Foundation's newsletter (I've Got the Music in Me: A Look at Intrusive Music and OCD) - Harold Pupko, M.D., can be purchased for $12. from their site at: http://www.ocfoundation.org/

As previously mentioned by someone (Elizabeth?) in this group, carbamazepine (Tegretol) and clomipramine (Anafranil) are the recommended drugs (rather than high-dose SSRIs) to treat "songs in the head."
