Desipramine was the first AD I took many years ago. I found that it was very effective against feelings of anxiousness, particularly the PHYSICAL aspects of anxiety. The trembling, sweating palms, physical restlessness, etc. were alleviated. The deeper emotional, psychic anxiety, especially the "mind panic" that can accompany depression, was not very responsive to desipramine in my case. It seems to be very relaxing physically because it's rather sedating, which might not have anything to do with its antidepressant actions.
