> I was on Effexor for about three years. I experienced some of the same symptoms those of you on Celexa describe. I had terrible headaches for the first week, but those subsided. It did help with my depression, but I also felt somewhat removed from my emotions. I felt kind of flat, and unemotional for a while. This improved, but I still experienced dry mouth, clenching of my jaw, anxiousness, lack of appetite. I also experienced delayed orgasm, which frustrated me greatly. When I became sexually active again, I decided to eventually stop taking the Effexor by gradually decreasing the daily dose. I have been off it for almost a year now, with good results other than during PMS when I seem to experience depression. My doctor suggested taking Celexa today, as a matter of fact, but after reading all your comments I think I will just try to endure the 10 days of depression without medication.

Cloverleaf, Sorry to hear you had a bad experience on Effexor. I'm taking Effexor-XR 375 mg/day, and have had virtually no side effects (except for a very slight dizziness, when it wears off or whatever in the afternoon). Effexor-XR and Serzone were the only AD's which did NOT cause me sexual side effects, and I have never felt unemotional or flat (like I did on Prozac). When the dose of Effexor-XR was raised, I had initially some delayed orgasm, but that has also gone away!
