Hi Sean,
I have rapid cycling bipolar. I don't take any ADs because they only make the cycling worse (even with mood stabilizers). But I've heard as far as anti-depressants go, Wellbutrin is the least likely to increase the cycling.Currently, I'm taking 1200mg of lithium. It works to a certain extent--it gets rid of the mania and the lowest part of the depression, but it seems to be leaving me with alot of low to mid grade depression. No plans to try any ADs. I'm very close to giving up on medications as offering any real solution for me.
Sean, I'm going to be practising sleep therapy and light therapy. They seem to be very effective for rapid cyclers. I'm also going to be changing my diet in the next 6 months (cutting out caffeine, dairy, sugar and white flour).
Please let me know if you'd like more information on this. I have some, and could point you to some good articles.
Good luck, Janice
