Its sedation is good for sleep, but doesn't carry over much into the next day after a couple days of adjustment. It has a good antidepressant antianxiety effect, either as monotherapy or in combination with an antidepressant. Common side effect is weight gain. Risperdal is a bit less sedating and less weight gain, though a tad less safe. Stelazine is more alerting. It is the closest thing to Amisulpride available outside of Europe.
But of them all, I think Amisulpride gets top honors. It is effective at low doses for negative symptoms, dysthymia, and depression. At high doses it is for psychosis. At medium doses it's kind of a mix. So it's highly adjustable. And it's very specific for dopamine receptors. Most other antipsychotics have action at multiple receptors other than just dopamine. It's a real crime this one isn't available in USA. Thank goodness for European pharmacies willing to accept a USA prescription and mail it.
