> I was recently prescribed Xanex for severe anxiety. I was told it would make me groggy for the first few days and then I would build a tolerance to it. I've been taking it for almost a week (tomorrow) and it nearly incapacitates me. I can't take it at work for obvious reasons. I take a 1/2mg as needed, 1mg for severe attacks. Do these side effects pass? Please share your experience with me.

> GregGreg,
I have a good bit of experience with xanax.
My prescrip. calls for .5mg up to 3 times daily.
I take it for anxiety as well and panic too. I have
taken it at work and it has actually put me to sleep
at my desk which is not a good thing. If I take
1 1/2 tablets it will knock me out. 1 .5mg will
make me groggy varying with the degree of the anxiety.
I was taking a lot of it but now I'm tapering off
not because of the side effects but becaus I want to.
I'm also tapering off my A/D much to the dismay of
my Dr. Xanax has been and is very helpful to me but
it will make you sleepy. I've found that I do build
a tolerence level to it. If I lay off it for a while and
go back the effectiveness is more defined. I haven't
had any other bad experiences with it. The thing
I dislike about it most is that you take one and the
effect is quick but it wears off rather quickly too.
I would like something that gives a more steady effect
instead of the "big bang" type thing. I wish you well.
