Binary Woman - The rash from Lamictal usually only occurs if the drug is introduced too quickly. By raising the dose slowly you avoid the rash. The rash, if it does occur will look like a sunburn to begin with. Watch for this and discontinue the drug if it happens. One in ten people will get a rash, but only one in a hundred will get Steven-Johnson's syndrome and this usually only happens in very young children. If you watch closely for a rash there should be very little chance of it progressing to a life-threatening stage. The effects of Lamictal in treating some bipolar depressions has been remarkable and the drug is definitely worth a try. Hope this helps - Cam W.
