Stephanie (and all):
You inquired a few months ago for some sort of 'official' words that would allow your doctor some comfort
in prescribing unapproved drugs from a foreign country.Well, here it is:
"There exists the Compassionate Use and Open Label INDs for unapproved
medicines. These statutory requirements of the US, permit patients to
obtain (through a doctor and in some cases for a fee) the drug even
though it has not been approved for use in the US. The doctor requests a
defined amount of drug, for a particular patient from the manufacturer.
The manufacturer usually sends the drug the next business day to the
requesting doctor by overnight courier."Found that in an RX Usenet posting. You can search on your own for the Compassionate Use statutes. I'll do the same, but it may take awhile.
By the way, IND = Investigational New Drug (one that is unapproved for use in the US).
From my own experience and others on this board, it has been done before. The laws in your state may impact the physicians ability to do so...Bruce
