Augmenting Wellbutrin (BuSpar, Naltrexone?)

Posted by MHK on March 21, 2000, at 17:07:35

Last year, I tried medication for the first time to combat long-term dysthymia and my first major depressive episode. Wellbutrin (400mg/day as a final level) worked pretty well, but my pdoc thought I needed something more. Tried Prozac, but the sexual side effects were unacceptable (low libido was already a problem, and Prozac made it worse).

After a bit of "on again" "off again" behavior (mostly off) and a second depressive episode, I'm ready to go back to meds.

I've been doing some reading about Naltrexone and BuSpar and was wondering if anybody out there has had experience with either as an augmentor to Wellbutrin.

I'm quite overweight and lost 40 lbs. effortlessly with the Wellbutrin, so I'd really like to keep that as my "base" med.

Thanks very much.

P.S. A little bit of trivia on Wellbutrin -- I experienced marked shortness of breath on the 150mg tablets, but no side effects on the 200mg tablets. (Shortness of breath returned when I tried the 150's again after having been on the 200's, so it wasn't something that just wore off.) Weird.
