In reply to Tiredness Related to Paxil, posted by Garrett on March 21, 2000, at 2:02:27
> I started taking Paxil three weeks ago. I'm taking 20 mg a day. I felt more relaxed within a few days. I felt like I was on vacation with a great reduction in stress. However, I am so relaxed I feel like sleeping all day long. I had heard that drowsiness is not that common with Paxil; therefore, I am a little surprised. Based on the literature I have read, Paxil is less sedating than other SSRIs, which suggests that a switch in SSRIs is not the answer. As a result, I would like to know any information related to the following questions:

>Garrett, when I first went on paxil I too experienced tiredness. It seems from speaking to others that this is a common side effect. The tiredness does decrease with time, although I still tend to be tired more often than I used to be. Paxil seems to be one of the more sedating ssri's. Wellbutrin is known to be more energizing, although each works differently on individuals. My sister is on zoloft and she finds it sedating as well. Many of the ssri's also have the potential to make you gain weight so I would monitor that and make sure you adjust you diet accordingly. All drugs have side-effects, but the benefits sometimes outway the negatives. Hope you find peace!
