Yeah, especially when I'm feeling bad in the first place ... then, dammit, people have to go around saying nice things.
I think that when you feel that way, it hurts because their aim is true: those nice things really are who you are, even if you can't accept them.
I'm sure Ms. Manners would say that one should always accept a compliment with modesty and grace. So much for the reaction we show others -- its a helluva lot harder for us to show the same grace to ourselves, ain't it?
