I think it' also really important to remember just how easy it is to misconstrue plain vanilla ASCII text (smileys or no). Without non-verbals, without inflections or other chances in vocal quality, and without a broader context than two sentences, what appears obvious to one is completely different to the next.

Then again, maybe Thomas is just suffering from, what was it? DHD? Look for it in the DSM-V... =^P
