Seratonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine are 3 of the chemical neurotransmitters which help send messages from one nerve cell (neuron) to another in the brain. Most antidepressant drugs are thought to work by influencing the availability of one or more of these types of chemical messengers.
If you want to know more, there are several medical encyclopedias on the Internet as well as a number of experts on this board. It would help to know how much detail you want and whether you are familiar with medical terminology.
As interesting as these brain processes are (and I find them VERY interesting), everyone who suffers from or treats depression knows that this is just a part of a much bigger puzzle. Depression is a syndrome a little like pneumonia--there are many different causes, and different treatments for each cause. Some causes are easily treated, others are treatment-resistant, and, for some causes, there is as yet no effective treatment.
On this board we share our feelings, experiences and information to try to support one another and to try to better understand what is happening to us. Spelling doesn't matter--only feelings.
