> I started trazadone about 2 weeks ago to help with my Postpartum Depression (PPD) and insomnia. The first 2 nights I slept like a baby, since then I have slept an average each night of only three hours and feel like I'm losing it! My doctor told me to increase my dosage to 100 mg but I still cannot stay asleep for more than 2-3 hours each night. Has anyone else experienced similar symptoms? Please advise!

Though Trazodone is often prescribed to help with sleep, it will worsen sleep in some people. I am one of them. When I tried it, it made my sleep very restless, nightmare-filled, with frequent awakenings and a horrible headache each morning. I've tried all kinds of things for sleep. I have found no perfect solution. But the best drug so far--nearly perfect--is Remeron. Just 7.5mg does it for me. I still have early morning awakenings, but that's because I go to bed early. I fall asleep fast and stay asleep for 6 to 7 hours. Other things like the benzos or sedating tricyclics also work for me, but they have a noticeable amount of carryover side effects into the next day. Remeron did too the first couple days, but no more daytime side effects now. I found Trazodone to be the most obnoxious drug I've ever tried. While I save leftovers from failed prescriptions for a rainy day, or another try in the future, Trazodone is the only one I did not hesitate to throw immediately in the trash bag.
