Anxiety,Depression Relative to Menapause and ERT??

Posted by Victoria on February 9, 2000, at 23:16:56

After some yrs of ert with progesterone, I fell into deep depression, nearing psychosis. Told Drs for yrs that my body didn't like the progesterone. Ended up on psych drugs and couch, hearing voices and non-functioning. Finally informed dr., psych, and counselor that was I was done playing with chemistry in my body and wanted to see who I was again. With in 30 days the voices, deep depressions and anxiety were "copable" and I was able to function somewhat again. Now, after 2 yrs, intermittant trips with Xanax, Amitriptoline, etc, I am coping with "bounding heart, shortness of breath, etc. All symptomatic of anxiety, but I will be awakened at night with them or feeling completely relaxed watching tv laying on the couch. The bounding heart is continuous 24 hrs a day now, just over the last 9 months. Can't help but think that there may be something more organic. Both mom and g-mom died of cardio vascular issues. Am looking into 5-HTP, but am a little nervous re: same issue from the Phen-Phen story. Would love to hear from folks who have similar symptoms and particularly women in menapause who reacted poorly to progesterone.
