Life without Celexa/Neurontin

Posted by Shirley on February 7, 2000, at 21:12:27

Today is the second day I've not taken any medication whatsoever. For the past month and a half, I've been tapering off of 2000mg/day Neurontin and 40mg Celexa.

Discontinuing the Neurontin was mildly unpleasant (noticeble mainly in terms of sleep/vivid dreams).

Tapering the Celexa dose down wasn't bad at all--but these first few days of not taking any at all have been horrible! I am dizzy to the point of being nauseated, and have had horrible nightmares.

I wanted to stop the meds because I've been feeling fine for months, and have been trying to lose the 30 pounds I've put on since starting with various AD's a year and a half ago (I don't blame the weight entirely on the meds, but I've always been suspicious). I also began exercising and watching what I eat, which I hoped would help combat any unpleasant withdrawal effects.

It's ironic that the Neurontin caused fewer withdrawal problems, since it always seemed to be the most effective drug for me. I guess it's hard to tell which medications are REALLY doing the most good when most of us tend to mix them up with other drugs.

Any comments from others who are trying to live without AD's? (note: I'm NOT anti-medication, I just thought it was best not to continue taking what I may no longer need.)
