As soon (and I mean within minutes) as they discovered that he couldn't, they shipped her to the state hospital, where the psychiatrist discharged her after 2 days of observation, telling her she didn't need to be in the hospital any more. I certainly wouldn't recommend this film for my friend--it would be too evocative.
Read the book _Mount Misery_, which also takes place at McLean.
