If what you're interested in is the dopamine thing, I'd give bromocriptine a try before amantadine. For depression, an increase in D2 is supposed to be more helpful than an increase in D1 (bromo increases D2, amant & ritalin both). Most important, tho, is that amantadine tends to have significant side effects, whereas bromo tends to have less. Just IMHO.
I haven't tried either, but my former pdoc said he stayed away from amant because of the side effects.
