Ferlinghetti wrote my favorite poem "Christ climbed down" and he expresses very similar feelings to yours (and mine) concerning Christmas (which, unfortunately, has a history of snarling verbal brawls in my family -- just a touch of dysfunction there). Halloween's a different story for me, though. I appreciate the "old time" significance of Halloween and it's also an optional holiday. You get to do what you want --- following some rules, such as not putting on the porch light if you're discouraging T or T'ers... I go all out for Halloween! Nuttin' cute but terrorizing! :> (VEG)
