Effexor XR was the lifesaver for me. I'd been on a bunch of different drugs, and had lousy experiences on most. Effexor was not effective on its own for me against the depression, but it was miraculous on the concurrent anxiety. The addition of a small dose of Prozac fixed the residual depression.
Hm, let's see... Side effects I had: the first few days at any dose, I'd have trouble sleeping, but that went away after three or four days each time. I was also constipated for a few weeks at every dose increase. Some anorgasmia, but nothing like Paxil was. The thing is, without the anxiety, the lack of sleep for a few days was nothing! I was still refreshed when I got up each day. Tired, but able to function better than I'd been for some time.
The side effects I didn't experience on Effexor have been more numerous: none of the 'emotional constipation' that Paxil caused: I could experience the grief when an honorary auntie died, but not as the end of the world, just as the loss of a loved one. No blood pressure problems, and I tend to run so low anyway that any BP changes are fairly noticeable. No major physical symptoms. None of the jitters that I got with Serzone, which also lowered my BP to dangerous levels. I think that jittering was to keep conscious...
So, for me, a miracle drug. For others? Well, as the subject line says...
