It's interesting that so many have had experience with street drugs. I used to use whatever I could get my hands on back in the seventies (marijuana, LSD, a bad experience with speed), and sometimes I wonder if THAT's what has contributed to my depression now, or if I was attracted to drugs as a teen because I was depressed.
While the drugs mentioned here don't appeal to me, I've often mentioned to my doctor that I would definately take street drugs if I had access to them--that's what depression has reduced me to. Fortunately/unfortunately, I'm a regular suburban working mom without many connections (well not any, really!) to the drug world. When you feel so bad for such a sustained length of time, it really can't come as much of a surprise that any drug that might make it better, or at least more entertaining for a while, sounds inviting to a depressed person. That's why the voice of reason doesn't work here, I think.
I have tried self-medicating with prescription pain killers, and they work great. I have asked several of my doctors, quite seriously, if I could get some to use like other people use Xanax. They never seem surprised, but they never say yes, either.
That being said, I don't think I'd want to hang out with the sorts of people who use meth on a regular basis. Too stuck up, I guess. ; )
