I am a skeptical psychiatrist. However, EMDR is amazing. It sounds too good to be true and when I first heard of it, I thought, "Oh, what a great scam somebody has thought of and I'll bet lots of suckers will pay lots of money until they find out it's nonsense." But then I had a patient who had had a hand cut off in an accident and had PTSD and NOTHING was helping him... not meds, not therapy, relaxation, visualization, hypnosis, nothing. So I sent him to an EMDR therapist thinking it would at least be only a waste of 2 hours, what could it hurt. And, voila!! He was cured. Since then, I have been trained and have worked with over 100 patients (would be more, but managed care restricts doctor time too much) and results are incredible. Most are cured 100% and others have their PTSD cured 90-100% and the only thing left is their underlying genetic/chemical illness (depression, OCD, schizophrenia, etc) which is 1000 times easier for them to deal with without PTSD. But, I'm preaching. So I'll stop. See the web site Gail spoke of.
