Remeron in the Elderly

Posted by Annie Evarts on February 21, 1999, at 17:40:39

I would like to know about this drug and the treatment of the elderly. My 89 year old mother is now in a care center and has been diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I now agree that she does have this problem. The Dr. has put her on 25 mg of Remeron .. she has been on this drug for about a week. We have noticed mood swings so far and she is very tired all day long. She is so tired that she can't get out of bed in the morning. I want to know if this is normal (being tired) and also will her moods level out pretty soon. In the morning she doesn't want to live and then by noon she is much better. I guess what I want to ask too is in the treatment, will she get worse before she gets better. She also says that she is "sick all over". She has some health problems but her depression is making everything worse. We are at a loss. We want to take her home again but we are not sure at this point as far as the timing goes. I would like to hear from others who are on this drug. We want to know that this is the drug for our mother. Thank you. Annie
