tyrosine/stimulants;hydroxytryptophan/ssri's

Posted by Paul on December 3, 1998, at 23:42:25

Since tyrosine is a precursor to dopamine, would adding it to Ritalin augment the effects? Similarly, as hydroxytryptophan is the precursor to serotonin, would it enhance the actions of Zoloft, and if so, how likely is the possibility of "serotonin syndrome?"

I think I tend to have a simplistic view of these mechanisms. It seems to make sense to my mind that they are analogous relationships, but I'm sure it's more complex than my layman mind wants to think. Any info, anyone?

I'd appreciate any info on synergistic combinations; i.e., how to maximize the efficacy of psychotropic pharmaceuticals using easily obtained substances: food, supplements, what have you.

Thanks.
