If praying works, I need a favour...

Posted by Mr Cushing on December 3, 2002, at 18:42:51

I just got word today that one of my dearest friends is on a sailboat that is currently 5 days late from reaching it's next destination. They say it's too soon to tell if the boat is actually missing, but that there hasn't been any communication with any of the coast guards or anything.

If she wasn't there for me when my depression was at it's worst following my Mom's death, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be breathing right now. I'm not sure how I'm going to get through this... She was simply too good for this...

I'll trade you a prayer. You pray for me to overcome my depression and early morning awakenings, and I'll pray your friend is found safe and well. (I'll pray for that anyway. I've added some bedtime prayers to my ritual, since I've read a number of scientific studies that say praying for others gets them better at an alarmingly high rate. (It's really breakthrough, but weird, information. I'd read it in "Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom" long ago, and it seems to be out again.

Really, you don't have to pray for you, but I will add your friend to my prayers.

Mr. Cushing,
Your subject line says,[if prayer works, I need a favour]. Now others have responded to your post by offering their prayers. I am responding by sharing with you what has been revealed to me by the Rider, who is the Word of God in my experiance, about prayer.
It has been revealed to me that prayer is [real] and that God has clarified to me what to follow that enables anyone to pray to Him.
I will now explain what God has revealed to me about prayer, but with the understanding that the God that has revealed these things to me is the God of others, not just me, and that I recognise that others have a different God than mine and I respect other faiths and I am only accepting the invitation here to share [my] faith experiance here and I am in no way saying that others that have other God(s) have to accept the God that has revealed Himself to me. My experiance is what I experianced, and if my God reveals something to me, that does NOT mean that what is revealed to me must apply to all others anymore than what other faiths reveal to other posters here means that their faith is the only one. I understand that others pray by different concepts and I respect other faiths.
There is a poster here now that writes about the the Latter Day Saints group founded by Joeseph Smith and later by Bringham Young. I recognise that that poster is [not] saying that the Mormon Church is the "only way" when he/she posts Mormon doctrine. And I am in no way saying that what I post is the only way, but I am responding to the clarification that Dr. Bob gave to he board when someone asked why I was allowed to post here. Dr. Bob's answer was that I could share what worked for me because it would thearfore have the potential to work for others. I am not objecting to Mormons or Catholics or Ploytheists, or Protestant people, or Zen people or Budahhist or Hindu or Islamic people or anyone else postng their faith experiance here.

Mr.Cushing,
When I was in The City of Peace, I asked the Rider to teach [me] to pray. The following answer was to [me] and He did not say to me that this was the only way to pray , or that others could not pray to their God in a different way. Now I have wrote about what the Rider said to me for almost a year now and if anyone does not know , because you are new here, or if you have not read my previous posts, or for some other reason(s), that I am telling of an an experiane that I had that enabled me to overcome addiction and depression. Now you could have a different experiance and am not saying that my experiance is the only one that a person can have. I have met with many others that have had faith experiances and they did not see a Rider on a White Horse, nor did they tell me of any Gates that they encountered, or tell me of any miracles that they witnessed nor did they tell me of any other things that I had explained to them. There were a few that did share with me [some] of what I have been telling here, but in a different situation in their lives. One person told me that they were lost in a jungle and had a faith experiance. One told me that they fell out of a tree. One told me that there was a death of a close one that preceded a faith experiance. I do not know what initiates a faith experiance to others and I recognise that others can have a different experiance than mine. I can only tell here what [I] experianced and I want to share my experiance here because there may be others here that could also overcome by hearing of my experiance and this board is for support and education about these afflictions.

I've been following the news as I live near Vancouver & last night, it was mentioned that the sailboat was found docked near Manzanillo due to stormy & rough weather but everyone's fine. They were just waiting out the storm. I'm glad for you & your friends!

Mr. Cushing,
When I was in the City of Peace, it was revealed to me that [my] God was described as a Father to [me]. Now that does not mean that other faiths have to consider God to be a [Father] to [them] and I am in no way saying that my faith is the only faith. I recognise that others pray to one that is other than the Father and that is their way of praying and I respect that.
But it was revaled to [me] that [my] God is a [Father]and I am a [son] and that [my] prayer was to be addressed as such. And once again, I am not saying that praying to the Father is the [only] one to pray to. I can only explaine here what was revealed to [me] and that does NOT in any way mean that I am saying that others can not pray to other Gods or persons or idols or angels, or anything else that they want to and receive good and perfect gifts from them as well as [my] God.

Lou, you are kind and thoughtful of others. I have read your posts on this segment of the faith board and I understand and agree with most because I can relate it to my own belief. God speaks to you through the Rider just as God speaks to others in their own understanding and language - sometimes in feelings, swellings, enlightenment. God speaks to people of all religions, races, classes, health status, mentality, age, station, postion, gender. But we must be listening, watching, waiting, expecting, patient, hopeful, faithful, charitable, and moving one foot in front of the other to hear His answers which come as we move and think, and read his word. There are many hidden mysteries in the scriptures, and they can be revealed by the spirit as we read them over and over again. When we read the scriptures, we learn how to read the spirit as we discover hidden treasures, even treasures of knowledge. The scriptures are God's words, and he speaks them to us as we read, even adding the understanding we need to get us through each day. Your experiance is like scripture to you. I wonder if you learn more each time you think about it, write about it or read what you have written before. Have you written it in a book so you can read it when you're 95 and can no longer write?

Proverbs 9:10
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
It has been revealed to me that knowledge of the holy is revelation from God.

(I date my scriptures when they are opened up to me in answer to a question or a problem I am having)

http://scriptures.lds.org/query?words=luke+7%3A37-50
As I was reading this it was revealed to me that my sins are also forgiven.
We all make poor choices and have need of a Redeemer to reconcile us before God. I have need of my Savior.

Oh, here's another one. I had a very hard time in 1995, before I knew I was bipolar. I was reacting and thought I was going to fall.
http://scriptures.lds.org/query?words=Luke+22%3A31-32 I didn't fall.I received strength and direction from scriptures and prayer, and guidance toward health. I found a good councillor, a doctor, trusted friends, I learned how to do emotional healing (a variation of whole hearted healing), and now a supplement (EMPower) that has helped.
Each person travels their own road. A Savior lights each individual path to happiness, health, and God. He does not want us to be miserable. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart. In all thy ways acknowledge him and he will direct thy path. Lean not unto thine own understanding. (a bit mis-quoted, but the thoughts are all there.)

rayww,
Thank you for your answer to my request. You wrote that one of the things that was revealed to you was, [...God does not want us to be miserable].
One of the first things that the Rider said to me was, "I have come to give you life, and life more abundantly."

Sorry, forgot that I actually had posted here. Yep, Eva landed in Manzanillo last Sunday. She returned to Ottawa last Thursday and I've spoken with her twice since then. She is in perfect condition and said that the only hard thing about being out on the water was that she was worried that everybody else was going to start worrying, but was kind of surprised as to the extent that everybody else was worrying.

The reason for the ship not docking for like 2 weeks? No wind... It was a sailboat with no motor. They had no telecommunications equipment on board because it was meant as a learning experience for novice sailors.

She said that the Captain was a really good man, though a bit bizzarre. Turns out that he practically lives on the water, and that the whole reason why they have that Immigration issue with him is because he doesn't really live on land. He just sails from place to place and lives on his boat.

Anyways, thanks for everybody who was thinking about her. She is truly one of the few "good" people that I've met in my life. If I had lost her... I don't know what would have happened to me.

Yeah, when it was mentioned on the news that it wasn't stormy weather but lack of wind, it seemed almost comical (in retropect). I have a cousin & with her husband, they spent almost all their time on their boat sailing from port to port. They're finally grounded due to arthritis but it was a fun life for a while for them. I'm glad everything was okay for her & you've got your friend & 'anchor' back,
