i took 400mg last night at around 130pm before bed, it's effect, i don't know why but doctors say it's good mood stabilzer for depression, it causes me to be this blunt blant mood, not excited, not living life, too stablized to where i don't experience life......
i think i need to decrease the dose, but i eventually want off it....i know it has worked well with other people, and helped mood crisis.....but it is not a drug for me.....
i don't think really i need a mood stablizer/s because what they do is levelize everything and you don't get the feeling of life....everything is seroquemed into boringness
im on the zyprexa 20mg, maybe ill just stay with that and ditch the lamotragine.....

Was this how your doctor wanted you to take Lamictal?
Are you taking Lamictal XR - the extended-release preparation?

yes i take 2 200mg in the morning, but i started taking it at night because i don't like the way it makes me think during the day, but i can't stop lamictal totally because of the withdrawl.....i see my doc in a couple weeks.....
lamotragine is vary successful in many people, just it's not working for my symptoms, i don't have rapid mood swings, my doc suggested to take it for depression added to the prozac.....so i complied and started it, but i don't think it's treating my syptoms, i have trouble concentrating and mainly just depression.....that the base line of everything, and anxiety at sometimes...but it's not severe, just makes things unpleasant

I can't remember my own name when I do. For me, 300 mg/day is much better. I does not produce significant cognitive or memory impairments. In fact, because these impairments are integral parts of my illness, the improvement in my condition afforded me by lamotrigine actually improves them.
I would not controvert your doctor's instructions in this case. Either take lamotrigine twice a day as he directed or ask him to prescribe Lamictal XR for once-a-day administration.

If you don't need it, don't take it. I think you have to slowly taper off anticonvulsants though. 400mgs/day is a whole lotta lamictal, for most people. I need Wellbutrin SR now in large part because of the anticonvulsants. A family member was on 400mgs/nightly, and ended up needing a low dose stimulant...even then, things were much, much better after a reduction to 150/nightly.
I dunno man. An antipsychotic plus anticonvulsant is usually a heavy combo. At least its not depakote or tegretol, lol. On the plus side...if you need an AP/AAP, it seems like the mood stabilizer can keep from having to increase the AP/AAP dose, or at least that's how its been for me. I was still freaking out on 30/Abilify. My doc wanted to either add Haldol or switch to clozapine, and I wasn't having it. She added trileptal and later low dose lamictal, and now my life is OK.
But if you don't have hardcore issues, it seems like overkill. Also, 20mgs/Zyprexa seems like it'd be sedating enough, already. Why does your doc want the high dose? Do you have anger problems or agitation or something?
Personally, I'd try a lower dose and maybe one day see about lowering the Z a bit, unless 20mgs is what you really, really need. I just think you're being over-sedated, personally.

the lamotragine was given for depression with some mood swing, but my main problem is not really mood swings, yet i do have them.....but i was put on 400mg for depression and mood stablization, and i started not taking it because it makes me actually in a bad mood taking lamictal, i need to lower the dose......
400mg is good for mood swing symptoms.....
i see my pdoc soon so ill get that taken care of.....hopefully until then ill just take 200mg

Thats what I said about the lamital! zyprexa is a much better med! Just a little while ago you really liked lamictal, what happened? I find perphenazine a much better mood drug. Takes away the anger I have. Its an AP, isn't that funny. Maybe you should try that? Ya, lamictal made me sort of dumb. I don't do well with MS's, depakote aswell.

Rock and a hard place (RAAHP...that should be a psychobabble acronym like YMMV.) with Lamictal.
It disturbs both my sleep and my cognitive abilities, but it does a great job with mood and trauma (or borderline or BPDII)! 300-400 mg and I was useless. Couldn't finish a sentence or navigate a website, etc.)
Maybe it depends what you are taking it with? When I switch out my celexa it has a completely different effect.
Anyway, most of the cognitive stuff should fade at lower dosages, methinks.

lamictal it's hard to describe, but im my personal case......it causes me to stay in the this same mood, like force my nueros to stay in this one state.......
but yea, lamotragine is a wonder drug for some people who have mood disorders, but me.....espcially at 400mg, i think mainly what i have is mainly depression that causes my whole world to revolve around it......and also cognitive learning impairments, but i've leanred and reprogrammed some of my mind to do without smart drugs or adhd medications, i just.....my mind just saw the big picture, yet i still lose things all the time and forget.....it's like it's written into my DNA
adding something, increase the prozac, i don't want to go onto wellbutrin, because wellbutrin caused me to have anxxiety.....strattera....maybe i could give it another try......
but lamictal is good for certain cases.....and it works vary well.......but it's not for my case, it works and improves other people's symptoms but it's not for mine.......you know maybe depakote......thats a good old classic mood medication
the doctor said she wanted to try lithium.....and .. lithium is a mood medication but it's more for treating mania....not depression, lamictal i read when i was put on it that it's more for bipolar depression than treating bipolar mania......
not sure....ill post again after i see the doctor about it

"Methinks"! thats what my girlfriend used to say all the time!
I was taking low doses to lamictal, 100mg. I started to notice the cognitive problems at the beginner doses.
I was taking celexa with the lamictal, do you think that made a difference?

Did the fog decrease when you stopped the citalopram? I think for most people the cognitive problems increase with dosage.
I think there is even a warning if you cross match the two drugs together on medscape, but so is everything else.
This is the end of the thread.
